In April 2013 Barend, aka Opa, was diagnosed with cancer. This blog was started as a place for us to share updates and treatment progress with family and friends.

Radiation
Radiation started on Thursday May 16, just 48 hours after the Titanium Hot Rod was installed in my leg. You can hardly ask for faster service. I will get 5 treatments and they will blast high doses of rays through the lungs, spine and the thigh bone (the Femur for "words with Friends" friends). The technicians constructed a cast of my body, this is mounted on a small platform and the magic begins. I was whizzed up to the ceiling with big globes buzzing underneath, then lowerd and globes buzz from above, turned around and more buzzing from just about everywhere. You don't notice much happening but when I get home I can barely make it to the couch for a very long afternoon nap. The Friday radition has taken place and there will be three more next week.

Hi Barend
ReplyDeleteYour recent treatment sounds familiar as to what has happened to Agnes. If you are claustofobic then radiation is a crime. (In her case a face cast). Before treatment Agnes always took a relaxing pill. After radiation she was somewhat tired, but after 30 treatments she was -and still is- exhausted. In your case it is directed at a larger area which probably has more impact. Ask Bonnie if you glow in the dark. (Barend vuurvlieg). Still three days to go.
We always stay in touch.
Love,
Pieter & Agnes
